ECVET - Key topics > More about VET > Finland
The Government decides on the VET general goals, the qualification template and the core subjects. The Ministry of Education sets out the training programmes.
The Finnish National Board of Education sets out the national curricula, the core contents and the assessment criteria. It is also in charge of the counselling services, the on-the-job training and the apprenticeship.
The National Board cooperates with the employers and the trade unions which are involved in specific Committees (3 years).
The studies consist of vocational studies (90 credits), core subjects (20 credits) and free-choice studies (10 credits). The vocational subjects provide the basic competences to performance a job; the course includes an internship carried out in a company. The core subjects provide the citizen's competences (national language, foreign language, physics, art, etc.). The free-choice subjects depend on the student's interests and potentialities.
