ECVET - Overview
ECVET is:
- a useful and concrete device intended to facilitate transfer and accumulation (capitalisation) of learning outcomes of individuals who pass from a context of learning to another and/or from a qualifications system to another
- a methodical way for describing a qualification in terms of units of learning outcomes which are transferable and which can be accumulated (knowledge, skills and competence), with associated credit points.
Political mandate
It has been developed under the aegis of the European Commission by a Technical Working Group composed of experts nominated by participating countries and social partners. The main conclusions of the Working Group were presented to the Commission and a consultation process was carried out at European level on the document of the 30th October 2006. The Working Group has summarised the responses to the consultation. A final decision will be taken, but the European Parliament and the Council have issued the Recommendation of the 18th June 2009 on the Establishment of the European Credit system for Vocational Education and Training (ECVET)
